What is EAP?

EAP's promote retention of employees and reduced cost through assistance with personal problems and stress reduction. EAP's have become one of the most popular ways for employers to improve the quality of life for their employees while lowering costs of workers compensation, health insurance, lost time at work, and low morale. An EAP provides employees with access to an 800 number around the clock to obtain help on a variety of issues such as stress, legal problems, financial problems, or problems with a child or coworker relationships. Once the employee has accessed the toll-free number a referral to a clinician is often made. The first 3 to 6 visits to the counselor are often with out cost to the employee. The EAP can assist employees with problems in areas such as the following:

  • Family

  • Marital

  • Personal and emotional concerns

  • Interpersonal relationships

  • Stress (including job-related)

  • Vocational and career

  • Bereavement

  • Alcohol and drug concerns

  • Financial/Legal (referral assistance)
